Project Updates on Five Children’s Books

You may have noticed that I’ve mentioned plans to release five new children’s books by the end of next month yet I’ve only shared illustrations for two of them. The reason is that of the four illustrators with whom I’ve been working in the last month, only two have completed their projects. One may complete the project after multiple delays, and earlier today I had to re-assign a project from another illustrator after nearly a month of delay after delay. The fifth book project is a collaboration with another author who wanted to try a fifth illustrator, who was just assigned today.

With about 40 days left and none of the books released yet, I still believe that four or five books are likely to be released by 10/31.

I told you I’d share what worked for me as well as what didn’t, and what works for me is working with talented illustrators who keep their promises and act professionally. I’m grateful to the ones who are following through and keeping their commitments. Thank you!

Josh McGill has completed all the illustrations for V.G. and Dexter Dufflebee and he did so ahead of schedule. The book is with my layout person and should be released  in a couple of weeks.

Christina Cartwright completed all the illustrations for Zach and the Toad Who Rode a Bull. As with Josh, she did a good job and kept all of her commitments. I just re-assigned The Grumpadinkles to her today.

Misty Zebracorn is behind schedule. I plan to make a decision regarding what to do about it by Wednesday 9/23.

My collaborator and I on Purple Fox and the Heebie Jeebies have major differences in how we create. It has been a growth experience for both of us. At times fun, at times frustrating. I’m not used to trying to drive with two hands on the steering wheel and feet on the brakes and accelerator at the same time. One thing I believe is that when this book is done we’re both likely to be quite proud of it.

With Love,
