“Words have the power to destroy or heal. When they are both true and kind, they can change the world.” – Buddha
My hope is that you will experience truth and kindness in my writing, and that it will remind you of the greatness and goodness within yourself and others.
Here you can learn the genesis of my creative ideas and each step I take along the way toward turning them into a completed product, as well as my steps for sharing them with those who are interested in experiencing them.
I believe this site may have value for those who are trying learn more about the creative process, are attempting to break into various related fields, are simply here out of curiosity, or are fans and want to keep up on the latest happenings.
I consider the creative process to be much like life itself, a great adventure! There will be pitfalls, detours, dead-ends, and disappointments, but there have been and will continue to be many breakthroughs, growth spurts, pleasant surprises, and wonderful and talented people I meet along the way. I plan to introduce a bunch of them to you over time.
As for creative success, my view is that if I’m having fun I’ve already won. So as long as I continue having fun every day, I will keep going on this creative path and see where it takes me.
I’m a late-bloomer, convinced that I didn’t have a creative bone in my body until I was 52 years old. Then, in about 2010 a friend named Denis Loiseau invited me to co-write a song with him. His invitation was the spark that lit my creative candle. I loved the process and the experience, and co-wrote several songs over the next 3 years. (You’ll find several of them on Amazon.com, Spotify, Muve Music, X-Box Music, and iTunes.) Just type “Russ Towne” in the search field.) One song–my favorite so far–“Nature’s Symphony” may need to be found by looking up my co-writer’s name for that song, Kevin Harris. I accidentally omitted my own name when listing that song. (Yes, that falls into the “misadventures part of this blog!)
I became a poet in October of 2012 and wrote over 60 poems in my first 8 months as a poet.
I began writing children’s books in about May of 2013, and my first book is scheduled to be published and released in late August or early September 2013, with the second due for release 2-3 months later. (You’ll find them on Amazon.com as well as several songs I’ve co-written. Just type “Russ Towne” in the search field after the release dates.)
Thank you for joining me on this great adventure!
